Bassist John-Paul McLean hails from Los Angeles, CA. Originally a guitar player, John-Paul switched to bass after graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2002. Since then, he’s resided in the SF Bay area performing and recording with a wide variety of musicians, such as Prairie Prince, Chuck Prophet, and Dawn Richardson. John-Paul is also an accomplished sound engineer and served as drummer Mickey Hart’s house engineer for several years, where he worked extensively on the Grammy-award winning album Global Drum Project. He’s also a skilled composer/arranger, having written music for network TV commercials and mainstream video games. Among his greatest influences are bassists James Jamerson, Bernard Edwards, and Bruce Thomas.
